 As secondary battery markets such as xEV and ESS that employ lithium-ion batteries are rapidly growing, demand for materials with improved performance such as high capacity and high stability is increasing. In particular, the properties of precursor are very important to improve the performance of the cathode active material, which is a major part of the battery’s performance, but precursor manufacturing industry in Korea has not been very active due to problems such as resource procurement, environmental pollution, and labor environment. As a result, most of the supply of precursors depends on China.

 However, this China-dependent industrial structure could pose a serious threat to the development of Korea’s future secondary battery industry, and the industry is emphasizing the urgency of fostering the domestic material industry.
